River Murray Mallee youth plan for Country
Our team ran two dedicated youth sessions in the Country Planning workshops with River Murray and Mallee First Peoples.
The sessions enabled these future leaders to explore what Country means to them and build their unique perspectives and priorities into the planning process.
The children and young adults presented their ideas to the Elders at the conclusion of each session.
The dedicated youth section in the River Murray and Mallee County Plan outlines their vision for the management of Country.
The Plan features the artworks created through the sessions with each artwork communicating the unique connection each young participant has with Country and their vision for the future.
Mayala Country Plan
Working collaboratively with Mayala Traditional Owners to develop their Country Plan, a key aspect was to ensure there were no barriers to Elders involvement or English language so that each person involved in developing the plan could engage with the content, understand it and own it.
The end result was a plan developed, written, designed and implemented by Mayala.
Country Planning is a strategic planning approach led by Traditional Owners to plan for and look after Country though their unique cultural framework and governance.
Following their native title determination, Mayala utilised Country Planning to align their thinking internally as a Nation before engaging in joint management negotiations for Marine Parks and business developments.
Country Planning has been a jumping off point for Mayala who have gone from strength to strength.

Country-based Planning
Country Planning is a strategic planning approach that is led by Traditional Owners to plan for and look after Country. It is useful to assist Traditional Owners to agree on goals, and it supports community cohesion and developing community priorities. It is a tool in itself for strengthening a united way for positive and real change.
