NIAA Ranger Program Ad

NIAA funding will be available to double the number of Indigenous rangers across Australia to 3,800 by the end of the decade and work towards gender equality in ranger positions. Round One will have up to $359 million available between 2024 and 2028.

It is anticipated that the new grant opportunity will be open around the 11th December.

Access the grant on Grant Connect here. Interested parties can register their interest by emailing: indigenousrangersgrants@niaa.gov.au or for women’s only: womenrangersgrants@niaa.gov.au

Funding priorities are:

  • Expanding the IRP footprint in places without Indigenous rangers, with regionally based allocations.
  • Increasing the number of women Indigenous rangers.
  • Increasing Indigenous rangers on dedicated Indigenous Protected Areas.
  • Building the ability of ranger groups to become more self-sufficient through capacity building, strategic planning, asset purchases and career development, including youth pathways.

How to prepare for the upcoming grant opportunities

To prepare for the upcoming grant round, your group or organisation will need to:

  • consider possible Ranger projects in the three priority areas.
  • identify the area to be managed by Rangers.
  • commence consultations with the Traditional Owners, communities and local First Nation representative bodies on their priorities for Country.
