IMPAC5 concludes with recognition of international partnership with Indigenous peoples to protect the world’s oceans.
The Fifth International Marine Protected Areas Congress (IMPAC5), held in Vancouver, Canada, has concluded. The global forum brought together First Nations Peoples, ocean conservation professionals and high-level officials to share information, learn from each other and inspire action for ocean conservation.
Australian delegates ran knowledge sharing sessions on Indigenous Protected Areas and Traditional Owner-led marine management. We look forward to sharing the conference papers soon!
Special congratulations to Janella Isaac (Mayala), Rowena Mouda (Mayala), David Barrett (Mabunji) and Jackie Gould (CDU) for their knowledge sharing session on Indigenous Protected Areas.
Sincere thanks to the Host First Nations —xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) — for welcoming all the participants (virtual or in person) to their traditional territories for this Congress.
